Many patients feel overwhelmed when seeking advice regarding thyroid, parathyroid, or adrenal surgery. Sometimes it is reassuring to know that other experts agree with the advice you have been given. A reputable specialist should not feel offended if you seek a second opinion.
If you would like a second opinion about the need for thyroid, parathyroid, or adrenal surgery, it is your choice and your right. You will often feel better afterwards knowing you have been given sound advice by your original provider, and you are free to return to your original provider for surgery if you choose to do so. Alternatively, you may find there are options that were not discussed, or that you feel more comfortable with one or another surgeon. In the end, the choice is yours.
And if you have seen me, but would like to seek a second opinion, I am always happy to forward any correspondence to another specialist of your choice.
