Large thyroid cysts can cause pressure symptoms and the appearance of a large lump in the neck. The fluid can be drained from simple cysts, but they virtually always grow back again. Until recently, the only way to definitively eliminate the cyst was with thyroid surgery.
Since 2017, Prof. Miller has been treating simple thyroid cysts with PEI, or percutaneous ethanol injections. This injection destroys the cyst wall and prevents the cyst from coming back. Almost all cysts will resolve with between one and three treatments. You can ask Dr. Miller if PEI is right for you.
